Damien has met at the Vatican with Catholic leaders from around the world, discussing how artificial intelligence will transform society and people of faith.
Catholic Digital Commons
Since then, Damien has actively contributed to technology projects — providing computer code in open-source projects — and now serves among the leaders of the newly formed Catholic Digital Commons Foundation, which provides free and open-source tools to people of faith around the world (code on GitHub).
Widening access
Free and open source by design: the same access-to-justice instinct that drives Damien's legal-AI work — lower the barrier, reach more people — applied to communities of faith.
The Catholic Semantic Canon
Among those efforts is the Catholic Semantic Canon — bringing the same discipline Damien applies to legal knowledge graphs to a structured, machine-readable canon, so that AI can reason faithfully over a tradition’s texts.
AI alignment with “human values” is not abstract here — it is the work of encoding what a community actually holds true, and building tools anyone can use.
This work shares its DNA with Damien’s legal data standards: structure the knowledge that matters, keep it open, and let people — and machines — reason over it well.
